Starting today, as part of our compliance program for the UK’s Online Safety Act and our ongoing investments in tools and technologies that help ensure age-appropriate experiences, players who indicate the age of their Microsoft account as 18 years old, based in the United Kingdom, and signed into an Xbox experience with a Microsoft account will begin to see notifications encouraging them to verify their age. This unique process for players in the UK ensures we can continue to provide age-appropriate experiences for all players on our platform.

At the beginning of next year, age verification will be required for these players in the UK to retain full access to Xbox’s social features, such as voice or text communication and game invitations. Players who do not verify their age between now and the beginning of 2026 can continue playing and enjoying Xbox. However, starting next year, their use of Xbox’s social features will be limited to friends only until they complete the age verification process. However, if a player verifies their age, it will not affect previous purchases, rights, game history, achievements, or the ability to play and buy games. We encourage players to verify their age through this unique process now to avoid any disruption in their use of Xbox’s social features in the future.

The information players provide during the age verification process is protected with industry-standard encryption and is not stored or used for any other purpose.
