Aventura de Viaje en Carretera Acojedora para PS5
Hello! Square Glade Games here! We’re excited to announce the arrival of our cozy open-world exploration game, Outbound, on PlayStation 5. Alone or with up to four players, Outbound starts you with an empty camping van and prepares you for a journey to find, create, and build your dream home as you adapt to the changing environment.
I’m Marc Volger, co-founder of our studio, and I’m here to introduce Outbound to our wonderful PlayStation community, taking a closer look at what it offers in our title, along with help from my co-founder, Tobi Schnackenberg, who will share some insights into the inspiration behind our upcoming game.
Outbound is a «Cozyvival,» a term our team started using after the alpha test when we stepped back and looked at what players found enjoyable. We discovered they fell in love with the satisfying survival mechanics, like managing energy, gathering materials, and cultivating food, combined with the cozy and low-pressure environment of living in the van. Other titles tend to lean more toward one end of the spectrum or the other, but we feel that Outbound perfectly balances the experience, that’s the sweet spot where Outbound finds its place.
Solo Relaxation Adventure or a Joyful Road Trip Multiplayer Experience?
As a solo player, Outbound offers a wonderful sense of being off-grid, where you gather resources and build your van at your own pace. You’re the captain of your own ship, so to speak, giving you a feeling of calm and empowerment. Outbound can also be played with up to three friends; however, this significantly changes the experience.
With others on the journey, friendly cooperation can turn into an energetic road trip, much like when you travel with friends in real life. We loved seeing that shift in energy, so even though it’s not necessary, multiplayer is a key addition from our perspective. We also realized, when bringing Outbound to PS5, that we had the opportunity to leverage the PlayStation Portal, as the PlayStation ecosystem doesn’t require any optimization ready for it. We love the idea of a group of friends sitting together with Portal devices, playing together. The portability (perhaps on a road trip) is something we hope our players appreciate.
Great Fields of Inspiration
«Part of the inspiration for Outbound came during a road trip from Germany to the Netherlands,» says Tobi. «I saw a beautiful vintage van driving through a solar panel field and windmills. We were in the prototyping phase then, and this moment sparked the idea of building it around an electric van with sustainability in mind.»
«Therefore, sustainability is a major theme we’ve woven into the design,» continues Tobi. «Sun, wind, and rain are key energy sources, and recycling waste provides new blueprints for van upgrades. These are just a few ways Outbound highlights sustainability through the game, and we’ve injected that aesthetic energy as well, like showing sailboats in the distance as opposites to massive cargo ships and traffic.»
Meet That Nice Puppy
For dog lovers, you have one with you on your Outbound journey, and yes, you can pet the dog. This functional companion, which you adopt and name, adds another layer to the CozyVival experience: players can teach them to gather resources, bring them back to the vehicle, and more. They’re not just there to be an incredibly cute face.
Games often catapult us into grandiose fantasies, placing us in glorious worlds where we face fantastical creatures with weapons and magic. Other adventures tap into fantasies a bit more grounded in reality, and that’s where Outbound lives. We’re excited to immerse everyone in a glorious adventure when Outbound launches on PlayStation 5.
