El director de NieR: Automata quería hacer la historia «más confusa»

There is no doubt that Nier: Automata is one of the strongest brands in the industry. Surely you remember how during the Nier: Orchestral Concert, the game’s director Yoko Taro gave some hints about a new game called Nier: Repentance.

Not long ago, we learned that its developers were working on another project, although its creator stated that the series would not die while he was alive. Now we have discovered some interesting statements regarding its development. In a new video interview, Yoko Taro explained part of his creative process behind NieR: Automata, highlighting that his initial intention was to create a story «more confusing» than that of NieR: Replicant.

According to the director, the narrative framework began with Simone, an enormous android who sings on stage and, by dressing in corpses out of devotion to a man, becomes impossible to understand or empathize with. Taro aimed to build a plot with situations difficult to grasp, even for himself, and this bet on the incomprehensible ended up becoming one of the most distinctive and celebrated aspects of the game. Fans loved it.
