Many of us eagerly await the release date for Nintendo Switch 2 of Borderlands 4. Randy Pitchford from Gearbox Software recently revealed that the game will release on multiple platforms on September 12, 2025, earlier than its original date of September 23.

However, it’s still unclear if this new date also applies to the Nintendo Switch 2 version, as no date was mentioned for this platform in the latest Nintendo Direct.

In any case, there are statements regarding comments that the game could cost $80. Pitchford sparked controversy by stating that Borderlands 4 might cost that amount because «true fans will find a way» to buy it. This upset many for implying that those who can’t afford it wouldn’t be true followers.

Later, he tried to justify his comment by explaining that the game has more than double the budget of Borderlands 3, which could affect its final price, although he also noted that they want everyone to have access to the game. He adds that the price will be announced when pre-orders open, but he’s unsure if it will follow Nintendo and Microsoft’s model of launching games at 80$. More details will be needed.
